Bargaining continues in New York with the Federal Mediators. CWA, IBEW and Verizon are still under the Guidelines imposed by the Mediators which includes that no information can be released by either party concerning the progress of these negotiations.

Regional Bargaining Report #76

Negotiations between Verizon and CWA and IBEW under the auspices of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) have been going on for over a month, beginning on July 27th, and continuing through today.  The parties have broken for the weekend, and will resume bargaining on Tuesday in New York.

After a year of talks, the telecom giant and 45,000 of its workers are far apart on a new contract

A strike by 45,000 Verizon workers, including 17,000 in New York state, is growing increasingly likely and could begin within two weeks. A wide gulf remains between the employees’ unions and the telecom giant despite efforts by federal mediators to forge a deal.

The two sides have been negotiating for more than a year but have yet to make significant progress on health care, pension and work-rule changes sought by Verizon. Since late July, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Director George Cohen and the agency’s director of mediation services, John Pinto, have been trying to help, with limited results.

Regional Bargaining Report #73

This is an update on the mediation status with Verizon.
On July 19, 2012, CWA and IBEW requested the assistance of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in our contract negotiations with Verizon.
The Company first refused the Union’s request for Mediation but we have been notified that the Company has agreed to Mediation and we are scheduled to meet with the Federal Mediator on Wednesday in Washington DC.


As you should be aware of by now, the Unions have requested the assistance of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in our contract negotiations with Verizon.

After negotiating for over one year we are still far apart on many of the issues involved in these negotiations.  Here is a list of the many items the company is trying to take back in order to lower our standard of living.
