Verizon Bargaining Update! 4 Year Contract Extension Details!

Local 827 is pleased to announce the extension of the 2016 contract. The new 2018 MOU provides for a 4 year contract extension which will take the current contract out through Aug 5, 2023.

We are pleased to see that our relationship with Verizon has improved greatly since our historic 2016 strike of 49 days.  This contract provides an 11.2% raise compounded over the term of the extension. With this extension we continue the good paying, middle class jobs that we have fought to preserve. A statewide stewards meeting will be held on July 31, 2018 with ratification meetings to be held in each unit. All dates for ratification meetings will be posted to the web, as well as the mailings to member’s homes next week. Please attend any ratification meeting for a full explanation of the contract extension.

Bargaining Update

CWA, IBEW and Verizon  have reached an agreement in principle to extend the collective bargaining agreements for a four-year period. The current agreements are set to expire on August 3, 2019. If finalized, the agreements will extend through August 5, 2023.  The company and the unions are documenting the understanding in signed contracts and expect to have that completed this week, at which time we will communicate further details.

The contracts will be subject to ratification by union members.  We will keep you posted.

New Contract Ratified!

IBEW Local 827 members in New Jersey and Pennsylvania have overwhelmingly voted to ratify the new Verizon NJ, Comptroller and Accounting, Verizon PA and Verizon Connected Solutions contract that was negotiated following a historic 45-day strike by nearly 40,000 workers.  The ratification votes were conducted throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania at unit membership meetings, unit offices and work locations between June 7 and June 16, 2016.  A count of the ratification votes was conducted today by unit election personnel at IBEW Local 827 headquarters under the supervision of Alternate Statewide Election Chairperson Sean Cocliff.

Your Officers and Executive Board thank our members for their unwavering support, perseverance, and unity with our CWA brothers and sisters. This was a victory for the middle class!

Bargaining Update

May 27, 2016

We have reached an Agreement in Principal with the company. The details of the agreement will be made available upon finalization of contract language on several issues, including the return to work agreement. These details should be available on Saturday May 28. We will be scheduling ratification meetings across the state where you may come to ask questions, be informed, and vote on the contract. This agreement was not given to us. We fought hard for this in the streets, in the public, in the media, and in our neighborhoods. We thank all who stood with us and donated their time, food, money and support. Local businesses and individuals did an extraordinary job. Remember these folks and please patronize these businesses and remember the ones who looked the other way. Make smart choices.

The Officers and Executive Board would like to thank our members who stood tall in their beliefs and acted with conviction. The rallies, marches, picnics, support of families,  and numerous other acts of kindness and brotherhood were remarkable. This was not an easy fight. It was tough….and Youdug inWe know how much you sacrificed and the struggle you went through. Our Chief Stewards, stewards, picket captains;members and retirees are the very best. Thank you for the inspiration YOU provided to us. We are Union and we are one day stronger than whave tbe! Let’s build on this and move forward as one. Attend your general membership meetings every month. Get involved in what is going on at work. Don’t let this fight be for nothing.make it count and move forward together.

Thank you again for your hard work, dedication and faith in the process and the team. We look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming ratification meetings. Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend. Remember to thank a veteran and their family for their sacrifice, service and dedication.

In Unity,

Your Officers and Executive Board

Bargaining Update 5.11.16

The bargaining committee continues to work diligently to bring our members a fair contract. We met with the company on Monday with a small group to discuss COBRA, life insurance and other peripheral issues. No meetings regarding the core issues of the contract have taken place. We requested information regarding pensions and received information today. We are reviewing all information to analyze the company’s proposals. We also are awaiting information from our attorneys and research department on several core issues that remain on the table. There are many moving parts that are happening.

Bargaining Update 5.7.16

A small group from the Bargaining team met with the company off table to discuss COBRA issues. Members are receiving confusing and misleading information from the Benefits Center. We discussed benefits for our members on short term disability. The process to assure benefits for members on short term disability was not followed but has since been corrected. Finally we discussed payment methods that should be available member who elect COBRA which would be timelier. Any outstanding issues please refer these to your Chief Stewards.

We have diligently worked on a comprehensive proposal which we would like to present to the company this week. It is currently with the research department as we work to verify our proposal for accuracy and completeness.
