January 2009 Update

Submitted by Dennis Slaman, Chief Steward, Unit 1 Sub Unit 23:

The surplus that was originally eight was reduced to two technicians after the VTP offer and an agreement made by the Union to let an additional SA leave the payroll to save a Senior Technicians job.

By the Union letting an extra SA leave does not mean that we will let management or other Unions do that job function but it does mean that if we need SA work done we could use a Senior Technician to do it.

The company notified two Senior Technicians in the northern part of New Jersey that they would be force transferred to Atlantic City. The company would have to offer relocation money ($15,000) plus seven percent of the sale of their residence if applicable.

With the help of Steward Mike Hulmes we were able to convince Avaya not to transfer techs but to use the techs from the southern part of the state to fill those holes created by the surplus.

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR UNION BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS WITH COMCAST IN TOMS RIVER N.J.
