January 2009 Update

Submitted by Dennis Slaman, Cheif Steward, Unit 1 Sub Unit 23:

With the help of Stewards Judy Allamandola and Frank Swazzo the Union was successful in avoiding any layoffs resulting from AT&T’s latest surplus announcement. The Union convinced the company that laying off any technicians would result in a loss of revenue in their new VOIP installation and repair initiative.

We were also successful in saving Supply Coordinator jobs by offering VTP and over subscribing in the title of Service Center Clerk. The Service Center Clerks title in New Jersey is the only title that has not been offered the VTP in the last five years. VTP in most cased will give members two years pay to leave voluntarily and collect their pension. We took surplus Supply Coordinators and backfilled the vacant Service Center Clerk positions with no reduction in pay.

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR UNION BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS WITH COMCAST IN TOMS RIVER N.J.
